 Distinguished lectures in clinical psychology and psychotherapy Von Freitag, den 16. Mai bis Sonntag, den 18. Mai 2008 fand an der Universität Hamburg eine dreitägige Vorlesungsreihe von Professor Donald H. Meichenbaum
zur Kognitiv-Behavioralen Therapie bei Kindern, Jugendlichen und Eltern (zwei Tage) und Kognitiv-Behavioralen Therapie bei Erwachsenen (ein Tag) statt. Die Vorlesungen wurden von Professor Donald H. Meichenbaum in englischer Sprache abgehalten.

Dr. Meichenbaum is one of the founders of Cognitive Behavior Therapy. In a survey of North American clinicans, reported in the American Psychologist, Dr. Meichenbaum was voted "one of the 10 most influential psychotherapists of the 20th century". He has published extensively and his books include Cognitive behavior modification: An integrative approach: Stress inoculation training; Facilitating Treatment Adherence: Pain and Behavior Medicine: Nurturing independent learners; and two Clinical Handbooks on Treating Individuals with PTSD and Treating Individuals with anger-control and aggressive behavior. Donald Meichenbaum, Ph.D. is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada and he is presently Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Miami, in Florida. He is also Research Director of the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment of Victims in Miami, Florida (Please see _www.melissainstitute.org_ (http://ww w.melissainstitute.org) and _www.teachsafeschool.org_ (http://www.teachsafeschool.org)) . Dr. Meichenbaum has consulted in many diverse settings including psychiatric facilities for child , adolescent and adult patients: for individuals with traumatic brain injuries; deaf populations, Native populations; veteran hospitals and schools. He has lectured and consulted internationally.His workshops combine critcal-minded scholarship , with clinical skillfulness and humor. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION In this THREE day workshop , Dr. Meichenbaum will consider the developmnet of psychopathology from a life-span perpective and the implications for assessment , treatment and prevention efforts. DAY ONE will focus on the development of externalzing problems which are rather persistent over the life-span. He begins with a consideration of the risk and protective factors that contribute to the development of aggressive behavior . He provides a Case Conceptualiztion Model that informs treatment decison-making. How evidence-based interventions can be applied in schools, clinical settings with children, youth and their parents , as well as in the community, will be considered. Videotape demosntrations of the cognitive behavioral training will be included. Day ONE concludes with a consideration of how to conduct parent training. DAY TWO provides a similar life-span treatment perpective on the development of internalizing problems ( anxiety , PTSD and depression) and considers how evidence-based treatment protocols can be implemented and evaluated. A detailed Handout will be offered on how to conduct suicidality assessments and how to conduct cognitive behavioral interventions. Critical clinical issues such as client noncompliance and treatment generalization will be addressed. DAY THREE extends the discussion to the treatment of adults with comorbid psychiatric disorders. SInce most forms of adult psychopathology begin during childhood and adolescence , a life-span perspective will inform intervention efforts. DAY THREE begins with a consideration of what are the CORE TASKS OF PSYHOTHERAPY and how these can be implemented . Videotape case presentaions will be used to demonstrate how to develop and maintain a therapeutic alliance, assess risk for violence to others and to oneself, how to teach varied coping skills and how to address the lingering impact of victimizing experiences. How to incorporate cultural and spiritual interventions into psychotherapy will be highlighted ....
